Design for Interior Textiles _ Weave

After spending a week learning the basic techniques of weaving on a hand loom, we had to produce six A4 size samples reflecting the visual studies.
Mine were (from top left) bark, sunflowers, cone, silver birch bark, pine bark and artichoke.

Visual Studies

After a visit to Calke Abbey, in Derbyshire, for a day of sketching in the walled gardens, we continued our visual studies on the botanical theme. Any inspiration could be used that had been obtained on this visit, and from the pre enty work project 'Tape that'.

The aim of Tape that was to 'draw' using coloured tapes, any cut flowers.

I diversified slightly and worked on tree barks, and then into textures of a cone and artichoke.

The Beginnings

I decided in early August to do a BA(hons) in Textile Design at the University of Derby, after a visit to the department to see what was involved.
Did I really have any idea of what was involved???

About Me

My photo
I started university later in life than most of my collegues, being a mature student. I have gained a huge amount from my BA, and I am now furthering my knowledge and experience with engagement on MA ADAPT course which I started in January 2010. Some of my BA work is on this blog, along with other textiles and a commission connected with Lace. I am also teaching lace with a class held weekly in Nottingham. Other weekend courses to follow and talks in areas of lace history.
