Jacquard Weave Project

Assignment 2, Year 2.
The brief for this project was to work in a group of six. To come up with a company name for the group and a logo. This was the logo, and the company 'Cutting Edge Weaving'.

We had to design fabrics from the visual research, for textiles for interiors for a couple, Kelly and Sid who have a seaside apartment. The couple wanted to reflect their love of the seaside in the textiles. They particularly want fabric for a heavy door curtain, a winter weight throw and for a felted log bag.
The following fabrics are what I designed for this brief.

All the fabrics were woven on a Jacquard loom, and then finished with various techniques to embellish and enhance the designs.

Two jacquard samples, one on right was stuffed, and one on left appliqued with additional motifs.

Finished with stuffling the weaving with thick wool.

Sample on right based on seashells and finished with drawn thread embroidery techniques.

Both samples have an inkle braid accompanying them, which could be used as a trim.

Architectural Plant forms

This assignment was to do postive and negative studies of architectural plant forms, which were then translated into hand and machine weaving. The hand weaving was done on a 24 shaft power loom and the machine weaving on an industrial Jacquard machine, with the design work done on the computer.

Two samples woven the same, but sample on right finished by hot washing to felt the wool yarns used. Resultant fabric is much more textured.
